About - Epsilon
Epsilon Technology Corporation is a designer and manufacturer of extensometers, based in Jackson Hole, WY. Extensometers are devices used in material testing, and are very important in learning about material properties. They work as very fancy, and precise rulers, as they measure characteristics such as deflection, when a material is under stresses or strains.
In the summer of 2020, Kyle was lucky enough to be able to work with this company as an intern. It is here that Kyle learned C#, as well as Visual Basic. Several different tasks were given to Kyle over the summer to complete. Starting with a more basic assignment of writing code to analyze data given from testing the extensometers, this was completed quickly, and was presented with fairly easy to understand graphics. The final assignment of the summer was to automate the extensometer calibration process. Normally an operator would need to input commands into a software, and use valuable time with this hands-on approach. The automation not only made the process significantly faster, but it also allowed for the operator to perform other tasks as the calibration was underway.
Kyle also learned other skills necessary for robotic systems, such as PCB design and assembly, and designing and documenting software in a corporate environment.
